At the recent Pre-Season Forum a session was presented on the COVID-19 vaccine, and the requirements for volunteers. Whilst the original presentation stated that the vaccine would not be compulsory, this has recently changed due to an updated direction from the Chief Health Officer. The direction requires all emergency workers (including volunteers) to have received the COVID-19 vaccine in order to enter a fire and emergency services site (including bushfire brigade stations), enter a DFES premise (including vehicles), or attend a fire or emergency services incident area. To comply with this direction volunteer emergency workers must have received their initial vaccination prior to the 1st of January 2022, and by fully vaccinated by the 1st of February 2022.
The Chief Health Officer's direction, and associated DFES General Circular are attached.
Details for the recording of volunteer's vaccination status are still being determined, and will be communicated to the Brigade once finalised. In the interim members are encouraged to seek the appropriate vaccine as recommended by their GP if they have not already done so. Those who have already received the vaccine should check that it has been recorded in their My Health / Medicare records and download a copy of their vaccine certificate.
Steps for downloading your vaccine certificate are as follows:
