Incidents
House Fire, Alice Rd 12th December
Called to assist with a bush fire which was started from a house fire, in Alice Road. This was a very large incident, involving many brigades including several from outside of the Shire. Whilst the house was completely destroyed, quick work by a neighbour with a bobcat prevented the bushfire from spreading further. Attended by Adrian, Andrew M, Keith, Michelle, and Rob.
Bushfire, Chambers Rd 14th December
Turned out to a bushfire near Gorrie Road. The fire quickly escalated and eventually developed into a major incident, covering 4000ha and involving hundreds of fire fighters. The fire was eventually controlled later that evening with the arrival of rain from ex-Tropical Cyclone Joyce. Attended by Adrian, Andrew H., Andrew M., Andy, Angus, Ben, Colin, Dave R., Dave W., Elton, Graeme, Jen O., John L., Kath, Keith, Michelle, Murray, Patrick, Paul T., Phil, Rob, Tina, and Warren. Further assistance by Jennifer G and Vicki. Thank you also to John S., and Mirline for making themselves available.
Announcements
Chambers Road PIA
A Post Incident Analysis of Sawyers Valley's response to the Chambers Road incident will be conducted this Saturday, following the weekly sched. All members are encouraged to attend, and to provide feedback on the brigade's activities during this incident.
Light Tanker Repairs
The Light Tanker has been off station for repairs, following the Chambers Road fire. It is expected to return Thursday the 18th.
Food and Refreshments during incidents
The last couple of turn outs seem to have occurred around meal times – to ensure that adequate snacks are available there are sandwiches in the freezer section of the water fridge. All sandwiches are labelled and dated and include chicken and mayo; vegemite and cheese; beef, cheese and pickle; ham and cheese; and ham, cheese and pickle. As well as sandwiches there are muesli bars, tuna and cracker packs, small packs of crackers, popcorn, cake and lots of lollies. If anyone has any suggestions for sandwich fillings (suitable for freezing) or any other snacks, can you please let either Jen G or Vicki know.
Don’t forget – before you leave the station, as well as grabbing sufficient water please take adequate rations – Jen and Vicki will monitor stocks for the duration of the fire season and see what works and what doesn’t.
Mundaring ICV attending Saturday Sched
This Saturday we will be joined by Darling Range Brigade and the Mundaring ICV, who will conduct their weekly sched from Sawyers Valley Station. This is an excellent opportunity to familiarise yourself with the ICV and its function, as well as meet some of the members of Darling Range Brigade.
