DFES Seeking Casualty Role Players

The Department of Health will be conducting a mass casualty response exercise on 1 st May 2018 and require volunteers to play the role of casualties. For the scenario, volunteers will role play a variety of injuries to be assessed and treated by Health and Ambulance personnel in the field.

To apply to become a volunteer casualty role player, can you please send your name and contact details to DPMUTraining@health.wa.gov.au.

Refilling from Bulk Water at End of Shift

City of Swan have requested that crews departing an incident at the end of a shift should not refill their water from on-site 12.2, and other bulk water carriers at an incident. The turn-around time for refilling these large water carriers can be long, and water should be reserved for appliances still actively engaged at the incident.

Returning crews should instead refill at the nearest hydrant or stand-pipe on route back to the station.

New DFES Advanced Bushfire Course

DFES have developed a new Advanced Bushfire training course, which combines the Volunteer Advanced Bushfire, Crew Leader, and Career Wildfire Suppression course into a week-long course. The training is undertaken at the Newmonth Boddington Mine, and is a live-in course with all meals and accommodation provided.

The course is a hands on, with live fire components and practical scenarios in bushfire suppression. Participants will be expected to use appliances, run hoses, conduct rake hoe and other hand tool activities. Training will involve up to 12 hour days, with heavy physical activities being undertaking on the last three days.

As this is a new course, DFES are encouraging CESMs, Station Officers, Captains, and FCOs to enrol in the first session in order to provide feedback on the course content and structure.

This course will be an exciting and informative opportunity, with places being highly sought after. Watch out for it in eAcademy.

The latest Mundaring Fire School calendar is attached.

An email containing the draft Rules of Association (refer attached links) was promulgated to members last week, with a request to review and to forward all comments to the Secretary via email by Thursday 22/3/2018. To assist members with the review process, there will be two information sessions held at the Station on:

  • Wednesday, 14/3/2018 at 1930; and
  • Saturday, 17/3/2018 at 1130

These sessions will give members an opportunity to raise any questions or concerns they may have with the draft documents.

Your assistance is appreciated.

This Saturday

Formally known as the Annual Shire BBQ, this event celebrates the efforts of all the volunteer emergency services in the Shire of Mundaring. All members and their families are invited to attend, with all catering (including drinks) provided by the Shire. An annual tug-of-war is held, and whilst Sawyers has not been successful in recent years, this may be our year!

This year the event will be held on Saturday the 10th of March, from 17:00 at the Mundaring Recreation Ground.

Sawyers Valley are teaming up with Mt Helena, Parkerville, and Stoneville brigades to run an information stand at the the Blue Sky Festival. The festival will be held in Mundaring, on the 17th of March, and covers a range of environmental and sustainability issues in the Mundaring Hills.

Volunteers are requested to help with the information stand; talking to the general public about bushfire safety, prescribed burning and, most importantly, joining their local volunteer bushfire brigade. If you are interested in assisting with this event please contact Adrian.
