Running Fire Permits and Controlled Burns

The Chief has advised that due to recent rain, and the falling KBDI and SDI, the restriction on issuing permits for running fire has been lifted. This will allow permits to be issued for running fire burns, and should see an increase in local burning activity.

The brigade will be looking to undertake some controlled burns in the near future. To assist with planning these, those members who are interested in assisting should contact Adrian with a brief outline of their availability (ie weekends, evenings, all day, etc).

International Firefighter’s Day, 4th of May

The 4th of May is International Firefighter’s Day, which coincides with St Florian’s Day – the patron Saint of Firefighters. Each year, DFES holds a memorial service to pay respects to our fallen firefighters who gave the ultimate sacrifice in protecting the lives of others.

This year, DFES would like to invite the public to join us in King’s Park for the service on Sunday 6 May. See the full details below and if you would like to attend, please RSVP to rsvp@dfes.wa.gov.au by Friday 27 April for catering purposes.

The Firefighters' Memorial Grove is located on the corner of Forrest Drive near the DNA Tower in King's Park.

The latest Mundaring Fire School calendar is attached.

Of note is the up-coming Initial Control at Wildfires course, which is important for aspiring Crew Leaders. If you are interest in attending this excellent training course, please contact Rob or Adrian.

Dave R. has organised a wood raffle for the 28th at the Mundaring Shopping Centre. Volunteers will be needed to sell tickets throughout the day. A roster will be drawn up to that people only need to dedicate an hour or so. Anecdotally fund-raising around the Mundaring Shopping Centre can be very successful, so this should be worth investing a bit of effort into. Special thanks to Graeme for organising the trailer load of wood for the raffle.

Please contact Dave R. or Michelle with your availability to assist. Currently we have a gap in the roster between 12:00 and 14:00, so please try and make yourself available to fill this.

The Honourable Ken Wyatt, Federal Member for Hasluck, will be visiting our brigade on Saturday the 28th of April, from 9:00. Unfortunately this clashes with the Firewood Raffle, however it is hoped that after a brief tour of our station, Ken will take the opportunity to call in at the Raffle and show his support. All members are encouraged to take this opportunity to meet and spend time with our local Member of Federal Parliament.

The Annual Volunteer Bushfire Brigade Street Appeal is on Friday the 18th of May. This has been a fantastic fund-raising activity for the brigade, and a great way of meeting volunteers from other brigades across the Bush Fire Service. Please indicate your interest in attending by emailing Michelle, or fill out the sign-up sheet in the station. The appeal will run from 07:00 until 18:00, and is centred around the Hay Street and Murray Street Malls.

The more members we have attending the street appeal, the greater our share of the takings will be. Interested members need to RSVP to Michelle before this Friday (27th).
