Incidents
Burn Re-ignition - 15th May
Turned out with Mundaring VFRS to a reported fire in Stephenson St, Sawyers Valley. Fire was behind properties, near the power sub-station. Established as a re-ignition from local resident's burn in days prior. Attended by Andy and Keith.
Announcements
Extension of Restricted Burning Period
Pursuant to Section 17 of the Bush Fires Act 1954 and due to seasonal conditions, the RESTRICTED BURNING TIMES for the Shire of Mundaring have been extended for fourteen (14) days from midnight on the 31st of MAY 2018 until midnight on the 14th of JUNE 2018 inclusive.
Warm and dry weather continues, bringing with it enhanced fire behaviour. This is likely to continue for the next week or so, with no rain yet predicted.

Administration
Annual General Meeting - 28th of May
The Annual General Meeting for Sawyers Valley Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade (Inc.) will be held on the 28th of May, at the Sawyers Valley Fire Station (12 Ashstead St, Sawyers Valley). The AGM will commence at 19:30, and will be preceded by a short general meeting at 19:00.
All elected positions will be declared vacant at the start of the AGM. Nominations are now called for the following positions, with all eligible members encouraged to apply:
- President
- Secretary
- Treasurer
- Captain (appointment is subject to the approval of the Shire of Mundaring)
- Brigade Training Officer
- Brigade Lieutenants
- Equipment Officer
- Committee of Management (three ordinary brigade members are required in addition to the President, Captain, Secretary, Treasurer, Training Officer)
Attached is the officer bearer nomination form. Members wishing to nominate for a position are asked to complete the attached form and email completed forms to mailto:secretary@sawyersvalley.bfb.asn.au. Nominations should include a brief statement of experience / qualifications etc. Officer bearer nominations with accompanying documentation will be emailed to Brigade members for consideration. Once nominations close (Thursday 24th of May) a full list of candidates will be emailed to members. Should there be more than one nomination for a position a secret ballot will be conducted at the AGM.
Members should also consider nominations for the “Outstanding Services” (Keith Woodley Trophy) and “Marks Melting Moments” awards. Completed nominations can be placed in the ballot box located next to the attendance log at the station. Nominations close Thursday 24/5/2018. In addition to these awards, there is the” Best New Member” (Les Ryan Trophy) and “Equipment Officers” awards. These awards are chosen by the Captain and 1st Lieutenant, and the Equipment Officer respectively.
Sundowner - 18th May
The brigade is hosting a sundowner on Friday the 18th of May. Starts at 18:00 - drop in on your way home from work (or after your shift at the Annual Street Appeal!). BYO everything. Friends and family most welcome.
Annual Street Appeal - 18th May
The Annual Volunteer Bushfire Brigade Street Appeal is on Friday the 18th of May. This has been a fantastic fund-raising activity for the brigade, and a great way of meeting volunteers from other brigades across the Bush Fire Service. Please indicate your interest in attending by emailing Michelle, or fill out the sign-up sheet in the station. The appeal will run from 07:00 until 18:00, and is centred around the Hay Street and Murray Street Malls. Organisers have confirmed that interested members will be able to register on the day.
The more members we have attending the street appeal, the greater our share of the takings will be.

Shire of Mundaring Step into Volunteering
The Shire of Mundaring, in conjunction with the City of Swan, is holding a Step into Volunteering information session, on Monday the 21st of May. The session will cover:
The benefits of volunteering
- The volunteering opportunities available
- Identifying the skills that you have to contribute to volunteering
- Rights and responsibilities of volunteers
- How to find the right volunteering position
Representatives from Rotary Club of Mundaring, Girl Guides WA, Ed Connect and Darling Range Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade will attend to talk about the volunteer roles they currently have available.
If you know of anyone interested in becoming a volunteer, not just with the Bush Fire Service, please forward them this information and direct them to the information session.
