2018/19 Roster

Astute readers of this newsletter will have noticed the jump in rostered crew between this week and next. This is due to the start of the new roster, as submitted to the Shire last month. The roster forms the basis no only of turn-out availability, but also Saturday sched and training dates.

As always, the roster is by no means a fixed regime, and changes will be made throughout the year to accommodate people's changing circumstances. A small departure from last year's arrangements; all members are now included on the roster, as it's use extends beyond call-outs. If you are not available for call-outs as directed by the roster, please let Adrian know and your availability will be noted.

The current roster is attached.

2018 Skills Refresher

To date just over half the operational members have commenced their Skills Refresher for 2018. This is required by the Shire to be completed before the 1st of November in order for fire fighters to remain active, and failure to complete the refresher prior to the cut-off date will preclude being able to attend fires.

Training exercises, such as the two up-coming RUI exercises, provide an excellent opportunity to demonstrate many of the skills required on the refresher, and to get them witnessed and signed off by Adrian, John L., Keith, or Rob.

Goldfields Midlands RUI Exercise - 1st September

Places are still available for anyone interested in participating the Goldfields Midlands RUI Exercise, to be held in Toodyay on the 1st of September. Current crews are:

  • Adrian
  • Elton
  • Michelle
  • Nick O.

It is intended that both vehicles attend the exercise, and wont' be on-station for the normal Saturday sched. The exercise starts at 08:00 in Toodyay, so crews will need to depart the station around 07:00.

Clothing Orders

Attached is an order form for brigade clothing, including turn-out shirts, polo shirts, caps, beanies, and jackets. Orders should be forwarded to Vicki or Jennifer by the 15th of September.

Volunteers are encouraged to explore this opportunity to undertake studies in accredited units or courses in emergency and disaster management. Applications open on the 3rd September 2018. Bushfire Service Volunteers are eligible to apply.

For more information please contact Manager Academic Pathways, Paul van der Meyor Manager Strategic Volunteer and Youth Programs, Jennifer Pidgeon.
