Tree and Shed Fire, 9th April

Called to report of a tree fire near Great Eastern Highway in Sawyers Valley. Crews found a tall palm tree, fully alight. Falling embers and burning fronds fell onto a neighbouring property, eventually involving the shed. Assisted by Mt Helena BFB, Mundaring VFRS, and Parkerville BFB.

Attended by: Dave R., Dave Wh., John Re., Michelle, and Warren.

Light Tanker Attending Fire School

The Light Tanker will be off station Saturday to assist with the Firefighting Skills course at the Mundaring Firefighter School this Saturday the 17th of April. Thanks to Denise and Shane for volunteering to take the appliance to this training.

Sawyers Valley appliances will also be required to assist on the following dates:

  • Sunday 4th July - Light Tanker
  • Saturday 16th October - Light Tanker
  • Sunday 31st October - 1.4

Volunteers are sought to deliver the vehicles to the Fire School on these dates, as well as collected them after the sessions are completed. If you are available to assist, please contact Ben or Ben.

Mundaring Fire School

The latest Mundaring Fire School training calendar is attached.

The Chidlow Tavern is hosting an event to those involved with the February Wooroloo fire. Further details are available by contacting the Tavern on 9572 4154.

Nominations for Life Membership are tabled at an Annual General or Special General Meeting. As our AGM is scheduled for Monday 31st May 2021, included is an extract from the SVVBFB By-Laws which relates to the criteria and nomination process for Life Membership of the Association -

“Life membership of the Association may be granted by the Association to any person as an honour in recognition of outstanding service to the Brigade.

  1. Nominations for life membership shall be made, through the committee, to an AGM or Special General Meeting and the granting of life membership shall be by a majority vote of voting members.
  2. Nominations for Life membership shall be made to the committee for consideration at least 6 weeks before the AGM or Special General Meeting. Such nominations shall include a suitable citation of achievements and record of membership supporting the nomination.
  3. To be eligible for life membership the committee must be satisfied that the member has given outstanding service to the Brigade activities and has served as an active member of the Association for a minimum of 10 years.
  4. If not satisfied that life membership be granted the committee shall notify the nominator of the reasons for the decision and the application shall lapse.”
