False Alarm, 7 th August

Called out during Saturday morning training to investigate a report of smoke near Malabar Rd in Sawyers Valley. Found a small 1sqm pile smouldering on private property. Due to the unrestricted burning period, the burn was left with the landowner.

Attended by Ben M., Dave R., Dave Wh., Denise, John R., Sarah, and Shaun.

Feedback is still being sort regarding the draft Operational Training and Development Plan. The plan was discussed at the general meeting on Monday night, with general support for the document given. A few members have expressed concern with perceived difficulty in meeting the new requirements, especially around attendance requirements for meetings, training, and vehicle checks.

The intention for the plan is to increase the level of engagement and activity around the Brigade, whilst remaining flexible to accommodate individual member's circumstances. Where possible the Brigade will assist members in meeting the requirements for maintaining the rank, or achieving the next rank. Examples of this include:

  • Making attending meetings available via Zoom;
  • Flexibility in the timing of vehicle checks (provided a check is carried out once per week);
  • Providing simulated incidents and training exercises to cover any short-fall in the number of incidents attend within a given year.

Many of the requirements are dictated from outside of the Brigade, and as such cannot be removed or adjusted. However the method and the support to achieve these requirements remains open for discussion and any ideas are welcome.

Please take some time to read through the plan and provide any suggestions or feedback to Adrian.
