Bindoon Bushfire, Saturday 5th

Assisted with mop-up and patrol of the Bindoon bushfire throughout Saturday. The fire started late Friday afternoon on Grey Rd, North West of Bindoon town site.

Attended by Adam, Dave R., Denise, John R., Michelle, and Shane.

Recent experience has shown the importance of checking for fires started by electrical shorts in overhead power lines. If you hear or see an electrical short, take a few minutes to check any nearby power poles for obvious signs of fire. Many pole fires are started by wildlife (typically possums) climbing and nesting on power poles and accidentally shorting high voltage cables.

Take care when approaching or inspecting the area around a power pole as it is possible for overhead lines to fall and present a danger of electric shock or electrocution. If you suspect that a pole or line may have been damaged, contact Western Power (13 13 51) to report the fault as well as phoning 000 for fire brigade assistance. Do not approach downed power lines and remain at least 8 minutes away from any impacted power infrastructure. If in doubt, contact Western Power and the emergency services.
