  • Second Call: Crew D

The Restricted Burning Season will commence on the 1st of April. This period permits residents to burn 1sqm piles between 18:00 and 00:00, when the fire danger is below Very High. Permits may also be issued for larger fires, although the Chief has directed that no permits be issued until the Soil Dryness Index has significantly fallen.

It is possible that the next few weeks will see a number of evening call-outs as locals report burns that are potentially outside of the restricted period conditions.

Due to the current COVID-19 precautions, the Brigade has been conducting the regular weekly training sessions via Zoom on Saturday mornings. A number of members have attended these sessions, however it is fair to say that attendance has not met what would be expected for a station training session. It is possible that these training sessions could be rescheduled to an evening to help facilitate greater attendance. If you have a preference for an evening training session, please contact Adrian.

Thank you to Denise, John R., Michelle, and Shane for attending the most recent training, which covered Repeater Talk-around.

The State Government has release the independent review into the Wooroloo bushfire, available on the State Emergency Management Committee website.

The review focuses on state level activities, however may make interesting reading for Brigade members.

The attached draft Media Policy was tabled at the March General Meeting and incorporates the changes as discussed at the February General Meeting. It should be noted that the changes in no way alter the intent of the Policy and were only minor abbreviation and grammatical changes. Members are asked to review the draft policy and forward any comments to secretary@sawyersvalley.bfb.asn.au by Thursday, 21st April 2022. It is anticipated that the Media Policy will be tabled at the April General Meeting for adoption.
