Attached is the 2022 Seasonal Outlook from the Australasian Fire and Emergency Service Authorities Council (AFAC).

The summary for Western Australia is:

Throughout the forecast period, normal fire potential is expected for the remainder of the state. However, the western parts of the South West Land Division are experiencing below to very much below average root zone soil moisture, increasing the probability of early onset of southern fire season should rainfall deficits continue into spring. Furthermore, the September to November climate outlook is showing that median to below median rainfalls across the Jarrah Forest bioregion can be expected. Together with the forecast high chance of exceeding median maximum and minimum temperatures and existing rainfall deficiency, root zone soil moisture is expected to remain below average. Therefore, planned burning activities in these areas need to consider the potential for lower fuel moisture.

The Shire of Mundaring is hosting a workshop to discuss bushfire and biodiversity within shire managed land. Topics covered by the workshop will include:

  • Outline the obligations the Shire is required to fulfil as a part of the requirements of the Office of Bushfire Risk Management (Rural Fire Division) and the Shire’s Bushfire Risk Management Plan, as approved and endorsed by Council;
  • Explain the types of treatments carried out on reserves vested to the Shire of Mundaring or as freehold land owned by the Shire. This will include justification around why certain treatments are chosen over others, such as burning, forestry mulching etc; and
  • Outline the consultation process which will take place when works are carried out on reserves vested to the Shire of Mundaring or as freehold land owned by the Shire.

A number of speakers from the fire management and land management industries will be presenting, followed by a panel Q&A.

Details for registering for the workshop will be forwarded once they are received from the shire.
