Tire Inflation Guidance
Following our attendance at fires down on the sand flats, there has been some discussion around the suitability of the on-board air compressors, particularly on the 1.4. It was observed that the 1.4 air compressor is unable to reinflate the tires to the required pressure. Following discussion with both BFS and DBCA fire fighters that commonly attend fires in sandy areas, it has been determined that this is a common behaviour for on-board compressors.
The recommendation is that the on-board compressor is used to reinflate the tires to an adequate road pressure, and use an on-station compressor to inflate to the full pressure.
A more suitable on-board compressor for the 1.4 is still being investigated.
