2024 WAFES Conference
There is exciting news if you are keen to attend the WAFES Conference in 2024. This year, members can self-nominate to be considered for a place at the conference, which will be held at Crown Perth on Friday 6 and Saturday 7 September. Brigades, groups and units (BGUs), as well as DFES regional teams, are also encouraged to nominate volunteers from their teams, but there will be no BGU endorsement phase this year.
The new process aims to open this valuable learning and networking opportunity up to as many volunteers as possible — particularly those who haven’t attended a WAFES Conference before.
Nominations are open from Wednesday 1 May to Wednesday 5 June on the WAFES Conference website.
The theme for this year’s conference is Yesterday, today, tomorrow: celebrating our heritage, embracing innovation and planning for the challenges of the future.
The two keynote speakers are also confirmed:
- Dr Alan D. Thompson — best-selling author and world expert in artificial intelligence.
- Kendall Whyte — 2022 WA Young Australian of the Year and founder of the Blue Tree Project.
More details about the program for this year’s event will be released in the coming months.
