Malmalling Bushfire, 24th Nov
Turn out to report of scrub fire near Gorrie Rd in Sawyers Valley. Started under suspicious circumstance, the fire ultimately burned for three days and covered an area of 619ha. Sawyers Valley supplied crews for numerous shits, and will have an ongoing commitment to the patrol of the fire-ground over the coming days and weeks.
Attended by: Adrian, Ben M., Colin, Daniel, Dave R., Dave S., Dave Wh., Denise, Elton, John R., Keith, Matt, Michelle, Sarah, and Shane. Thank you to everyone else who has also volunteer, but not yet attended a shift - hopefully they will get an opportunity of the next few days.
The following is a update on the Malmalling fire from the Chief:

Firstly, thank you for your continued support in resourcing the Malmalling incident. I fully appreciate the impact ongoing shifts can have on our members, often disrupting family and work commitments. Please pass on my sincere gratitude for their efforts and dedication thus far. Regarding the ongoing patrols, please find the latest SITREP below. Attached are the latest maps, including line scanner imagery 27/11/2024, Calculations 28/11 and 29/11. Incident Status:
- The fire is contained and controlled, fire size is 619ha, with 100% of the perimeter tracked.
- Patrols are planned for Thursday and Friday, with weekend patrols to be reassessed on Friday.
- The ICC will be demobilised from 1700hrs.
- Crews are to report directly to 6IP when commencing and completing patrols, any escalation through ComCen and contact CBFCO.
- Forest Products Commission (FPC) and Department of Water and Environmental Regulation (DWER) crews continue working in the pine plantation areas.
- Collar tanks will remain on-site, likely until the weekend, however bulk water carriers are still being determined
- Chidlow Light is available on the fire ground 0800hrs - 1400hrs both days and will responsible for welfare requirements.
