DFES Burn, Friday 15th
As has been advertised via the mailing list and BART, DFES will be conducting a Burn in Chidlow on Friday the 15th of October. Four of our crew members have put their hands of to assist, however we still lack a 1.4 driver. If anyone is available to help out it would be greatly appreciated. The fall-back plan is for Glen Forrest to pick up our two spare members in their 1.4.
If you are available please contact Adrian.
SOP 2.1.2 - Updates to Mobilising
Standard Operating Procedure 2.1.2 describes the DFES requires for brigades, and other emergency units, when responding to an incident. The SOP details which types of appliances should be mobilised to an incident based on the type of incident and the geographic location.
At a brigade level, the most important item is the need to classify an incident within five minutes of arriving. It should be noted that an incident classification is different to an arrival code (ie 44, 66, 88). The arrival code should be given by the first arriving appliance as it nears an incident, and provides a very quick indication of the status of the incident. The classification may be given up to five minutes after arriving, and provides more detail on the nature and scape of the incident in board terms (ie 1st Alarm scrub fire).
For our brigade are, incident classifications should result in the following resource deployments:
- 1st Alarm
- 1 x Brigade
- 2nd Alarm
- Up to 6 Tankers (Light Tankers, 1.4s, and heavies)
- 3rd Alarm
- 7 - 12 Tankers
- ICV
- Bulk Water Carrier
- Deputy/Chief
- District Officer / Area Officer
- 4th Alarm
- More than 12 Tankers
- Bulk Water Carrier
- Deputy/Chief
- District Officer / Area Officer
- Superintendent
The SOP also details notifications that will be made to various groups and informees within the organisation based on the alarm classification. It can be see that early classification can enable either a rapid response to an escalating incident or an early stand-down of incoming resources. It is important that Crew Leaders appreciate their obligations with respect to this SOP.
The relevant SOP is attached.
