Dumbarton Strike Team, 16th November

Answer a request for resources to form part of a strike team attending the Dumbarton fire near Toodyay. The 1.4 was sent and completed a full day of mop up.

Last Friday the Brigade received hand-over of a new MK70 Light Tanker. The new appliance includes a number of new features, including:

  • Diesel pump (fuelled from main vehicle tank);
  • Deluge system; and
  • Fridge.

The overall design of the new Light Tanker is significantly different from the previous MK19 model. With the rapidly approaching fire season all members are encouraged to spend time familiarising themselves with the operation of the new appliance, in particular the critical systems:

  • Pump control panel;
  • Hoses and hose reel;
  • Radios;
  • Beacons;
  • Deluge system; and
  • Battery management and isolation.

Attached is document describing the features and operation of the new appliance.

An early discovery has been that the new appliance should only be filled using “low flow” diesel bowsers, and appropriate PPE should be worn.
