Mundaring Fire School and Training

The Bushfire Centre of Excellence will be hosting the Fire Weather 1 training course on the 1st and 2nd of April. Fire Weather 1 is a new course which complements Advanced Bush Firefighting.

The course will be conducted at the Bushfire Centre of Excellence, in Nambeelup.

Anyone interested in attending this course should contact Ben or Adrian.

The WAFES Awards honour and acknowledge the achievements of volunteers and DFES staff throughout Western Australia who have shown exceptional dedication to duty over the past 12 months.

Nominations are now open for 15 WAFES Award categories across youth, individual and team achievement recognising firefighting, marine and SES volunteers as well as DFES operational staff, corporate staff and career firefighters.

If you know someone who has gone above and beyond over the past 12 months, nominate them today! Volunteers who nominate a successful finalist will receive an invitation to the WAFES Awards gala dinner.

Of the fifteen WAFES Awards present each year, three are relevant to our Brigade:

  • Firefighting Youth Achievement
  • Murray Lang Bush Fire Service Award (Individual Achievement)
  • Firefighting Team Achievement Award (Teach Achievement)

Nominations close Monday 3 April 2023 at 0900 hours.

For more information on the awards including eligibility and criteria and to nominate please visit the DFES website.

As the Brigade Annual General Meeting is scheduled for Monday 29th May 2023, members are asked to email nominations for Life Membership to Vicki by Saturday, 15th April 2023.

Just a reminder that the annual volunteer family event will be held at Harry Riseborough Oval, Hartung Street Mundaring on Saturday 25th March 2023 commencing at 1700 hours, and it’s not too late to let Vicki know if you and your family would like to attend.

The format will be along similar lines as previous years with the tug-of-war between Brigades, State Emergency Service and all other challengers for the Fire & Emergency Services trophy. At the completion of the games there will be award presentations, followed by the evening meal.

The catering for the event will be handled by WA Spit Roast, who will supply all the meat, salads, bread, desserts, condiments, cutlery and plates. Beer, wine and soft drink will be supplied. Please note there will be no charge.

A Bouncy Castle has been hired and a DJ will be providing the music. For your own comfort, it is suggested you bring along chairs or picnic rugs.

Not sure at this stage what the rules are for the tug-of-war, however Vicki is looking for volunteers – don’t be shy and no experience necessary. If interested, please contact Vicki.
