Administration
Hazard Reduction Burn Fees and Charges
At the February BFAC meeting, a recommendation was made to Council that the Shire produce a schedule of rates for hazard reduction burning and bushfire response. The schedule of rates standardises the expected cost for hazard reduction burns across all Shire brigades, ensuring residents are fairly charged for the service and avoiding shopping around the brigades for a cheaper price.
In addition to standardising the rates for burns, these rates can also be applied to bushfire response services. This is intended to be applied to escaped and illegal burns, in particular to repeat offenders. It is important to note that the rates will not be applied to normal fire response; residents will not be expected to pay for bushfire brigade services.
The published rates are as follows:
- Hazard Reduction Burns - $150/hr
- Escaped Burn Response (as per S18, Bush Fires Act 1954), up to a maximum of $10,000:
- Light Tanker / 1.4 Tanker - $150/hr
- Medium/Heavy Tanker (2.4/3.4/4.4) - $200/hr
- Firefighter welfare (where applicable) - $40/firefighter
