Car fire, the Lakes, 24th November

Whilst returning from the Gorrie Rd incident, Sawyers Valley 1.4 was called by 6IP to attend a car fire at the Lakes Roadhouse. Found a small hatchback, fully involved, which had spread to nearby bush. Contained by 1.4 with assistance from Shire Fire Protection Officers. Further assisted by Chidlow BFB and Mt Helena BFB.

Attended by: Adrian, Denise, John R. (station), Keith, Sarah, and Shane.

During the car fire on Wednesday the 1.4 pump failed. Upon inspection at the depot it was found that the pump fuel tank had run dry. Whilst it did not materially impact the car fire incident, such an oversight could have serious and dangerous consequences at a more challenging incident.1)

The following checks must be performed whenever an appliance is returned to the station:

  1. Water full
  2. Pump fuel full
  3. Diesel tank full
  4. Radio channels reset and hand-helds returned to charger
  5. Vehicle isolated and placed on charge

Keith, our Equipment Manager, will produce a check-list to this effect. This must be checked off by the appliance Crew Leader each time an appliance returns to the station.

It is also good practise to check the pump fuel level each time the water tank is filled.

Attached is a PDF detailing the process for uploading your COVID-19 vaccine certificate in the Volunteer Hub. Your COVID-19 vaccine certificate can be retrieved from the My Gov portal.

It is anticipated that a separate process shall be developed the enable Brigades and or Local Government to register members vaccination status. This is likely to be a separate process to registering your status with DFES, and will be communicated once details are finalised.
